Programs of the People's Action for Rural Development

Program 1: Community Peoples Capacity Building for Good Governance

Human capital in communities need continuous upgrading as evolving changes make old knowledge and skills become redundant, particularly with the advancement in the digital technologies.

Program 2: Sustainable Community Land & Forest Use Management

Livelihoods of rural people depend on their nature resources: land, forest and sea. As they use these resources in light of the rapidly increasing population, sustainable environmental management is important for sustaining livelihoods in the long run.

Program 3: Micro- Small and Medium Enterprises Development & Women's Microfinance Program

Women, specifically, are very important economic development agents at the household level, thus feminist finance, business institutions and systems should be designed and implemented for them.

Program 4: Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

Collective effort and action are important for addressing issues. As indigenous people own land, forest, and sea, they should be informed, and technical and financial resources are channeled into their hands for protecting their resources in a timely.

WELCOME

Hello, welcome to our site to explore what we do, our partners and how you may possibly participate in what we are doing. The indigenous people and the communities have organized to find ways to contribute to the global efforts in climate change mitigation and adaptation. Basically, inadequate information gets to them to help them understand problems like global warming. They basically understood their lives are in danger as global warming is intensifying due to human activities on our planet EARTH.

Hello followers and tree farmers

My Story

Papua New Guinea is located in Oceania, near Indonesia. The people live in traditional tribal and clan groups, speaking 850 different languages thus highly diverse cultures. The rural population accounts for 85% of the country's total population of about 11M people. Subsistence and semi-subsistence agriculture predominantly support rural livelihoods. People are dependent on their land, forest, and sea for food. 97% of the land mass is owned by the indigenous people and local communities through customary land tenure rights. Joseph Pumai and other rural development practitioners, found that poverty persistently existed and affected many rural people. Farmers needed to collectively organise and adapt better farming systems and organise sustainable production to enter value chain markets for formalised business profits. PAfRD founders developed three core development programmes: 1) Community Peoples Capacity Building for Good Governance, 2) Sustainable Community Land & Forest Use Management, and 3) Women's Micro- and Small Enterprises and Microfinance Program in 2007.
