Tropical Forest Coffee organised farmers

Indigenous smallholders coffee farmers are

growing coffee through the Community Forest Governance (CFGGs) using agroforestry system modelling preventing deforestation and conserving primary forests and biodiversity. The CFGG programme aims 

to grow 100,000 hectares of coffee trees intercropped with shade trees and supply certified green been coffee to long term partners, up to 15 years. Supply contracts are

sought from coffee consumers, large scale and medium scale consumers around world.

Smallholder coffee farmers produce 80% of the total annual coffee exported by Papua 

New Guinea, which had been averaging around 850,000 green bean bags. The potential increase coffee production now dependent on smallholder coffee farmers. PNG Coffee

Industry Corporation (CIC) is concentrating efforts of research and extension services on

smallholder coffee farmers to increase production to 3M GB bags per annum. PAfRD supports this strategy and is promoting climate change mitigation and adaptation-based coffee using agroforestry systems that provide forest buffer and strengthens food securing, value chains development and trade for sustainable livelihoods and poverty

alleviation.
